A small bit of bitching:
Flash 9 Update 3, released last December, finally supports H.264 and additional audio codecs - which means it also supports all kinds of fun open-source implementations, like x264. With any luck, once that version is more prevalent (install base is only 82-85% right now), On2's VP6 codec will be irrelevant and dead. Forever. I couldn't be happier. Fuck On2. Fuck them in their dirty asses, fuck their terrible flaky batch encoder with bad Avisynth support, fuck their lack of multithreading, and fuck their unwillingness to release a commercial version of their codec in any package under $3000. Let them go the way of RealNetworks.

A testament to MSI and Birthday Massacre: despite this being an obnoxious venue and one of the worst crowds I've been in (I could look around at any time and see at least five people standing with blank expressions on their faces), it was still a fantastic show.

Just picked up a Logitech G11 and I love it already. It might not have the clack-clack of the old IBM keyboards, but I'm already using the 18 macro buttons for 3ds max. Keystrokes like Ctrl-Shift-C are now one key, which is nice, because I was running out of shortcuts to use for common polygon editing tools. Plus, my left hand naturally rests on the QWERTY keys while working (those are the shortcuts for the main translation tools) so it's a short trip from there to the macro keys. It might not be an Optimus... but given what happened to that, maybe it's a good thing.
The G11 is basically a G15 without the LCD (which seems generally useless) and three times as many macro keys. The old-style G15 had 18, the new one has six - I guess there really aren't many games that could take advantage of all eighteen.
Only problem? Until I get used to the keyboard layout, I'm going to be pressing the G16 key instead of Ctrl, since the bottom left part of the keyboard is extended. Should become second nature soon.

After watching, you'll want to watch the rest. It's funny, sure, but it also teaches you why you're stupid for using the tools you do. I've probably cut 1/3 of the time off photomanipulation on this project because of these videos.

Trillian hijacks certain key combinations (even if the effects of them are disabled), one of which is Ctrl-Shift-I. That's the same shortcut that Photoshop uses to invert the current selection.
I've been wondering why that was so flaky. What an asshole of a program.

In Grand Theft Auto IV, a few seconds before you have an incoming cellphone call, there is a slight bit of interference (that strange buzzing sound) that plays over the car speakers.
The attention to detail in this game is almost unbelievable.

Help: I need an approximately 72"x30" minimalist desk (no drawers, shelves, hutch or any of that shit) that looks nice, preferrably dark hardwood veneer, since I probably can't afford solid hardwood. Looking to spend less than $300.
Advice? For some reason, this is incredibly difficult to find. Most desks seem to cut off at 60", which means I can't fit everything I need to.
Edit: yay, found a bunch of possible desks. Shipping costs hurt. I wonder if there's a local place that sells these things.

You probably already know this: I'm going to be in NH from April 30th (at night) to May 6th (in the afternoon).
Every possible aspect of my life has fallen into place in the last month.

Fucking hell. Two sleeping pills and I'm still awake. No, I'm not going to take any more than that.
This one has always been shaky near the end. Recorded the whole thing in multiple sections, and it still took forever.

Today's work: All animation, all the time. Finishing all keyframes for Stompy RPC firing.
- Walk up, place heel on rock, throw end of RPC into ground - Open breech - Load chainsaw - Close breech - Hold top and bottom of launcher and snap extension back - Pull down foregrip, grab by foregrip and top of launcher and lift to shoulder - Release sights - Lift to parallel firing position, grab ripcord - Pull ripcord - Pull ripcord again, smack launcher a couple times and mutter "come on, come on" - Pull ripcord and wait for chainsaw to start - Move hand to grip, aim - Squeeze trigger
All kinds of stuff to do.

I like doing these daily "today's work" - helps me see what I accomplished for the day, compared to what I was hoping for.
Tuesday: - Finish watching tutorials for Afterburn, allowing for better and faster-rendering smoke effects - Begin applying newfound knowledge to concrete bullet impacts - Finish cleanup on vending machine animation, including changes made to ending - Begin re-texture of Stompy's chest and shirt (lost to the ravages of zBrush)
